Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day. But I find a shortage of ‘all day breakfast’ restaurants here – because, let’s face it, I’m not getting up on a weekend anytime before midday.
I met a friend of mine at Eggspectation on the weekend, and didn’t really know what to expect 😉
I knew nothing about this place and after sitting down and reading the menu how it’s a Canadian institution, newly opened on The Beach at JBR.
I loved it – the menu options, the location and the price is quite reasonable. I had The Southwest Sunrise (54AED) – like the name suggests an omelette topped with sour cream, salsa and avocado. Delish.
Right then and then my hangover had been cured, paired with a berry smoothie that stated that very advice on the menu.
The location reminded me of a morning spent at a beach cafe in Queensland – overlooking all the swimmers and kids with sandy feet while sipping coffee with the trendy crowd in a comfortable air-conditioned cafe.
The only thing I thought was really strange – the size of their coffee cups. Really, really small in comparison to meal portions! Anyway not much to complain about here because clearly people don’t visit for the coffee.
The menu is really really overwhelming, so if you are like me and had no idea what to expect, be a nerd and read up on it ahead of time: http://www.eggspectation.com
Parking: Free – if you take your receipt from the restaurant to be validated at underground parking lot.
Price: Varies – for a blow out lobster omelette – 70AED. The signature egg dishes starting from 50AED. Smoothies 20-25AED.
We had to wait over 15 minutes for a table – which I totally don’t mind doing, but there is actually nowhere to wait – unless you are walking or chilling around in the heat. So see if you can book a table ahead of time.
Overall forecast: Sunny with a side of Eggs 🙂
